I’m taking the SAT in 30 minutes… And I’m struggling to remain calm. How the hell is one supposed to be cool when one can seriously screw one’s future in 4 hours of stressful testing? On the bright side, if God is giving out 700’s (the mfin’ bailout), He just might give me a couple of those. At least one. Sweet Jesus just one. Pleasseeee.
ORACIÓN A LA BANDERA
Dios te salve, Patria Sagrada,
en tu seno hemos nacido y amado;
eres el aire que respiramos,
la tierra que nos sustenta,
la familia que amamos,
la libertad que nos defiende,
la religión que nos consuela.
Tu tienes nuestros hogares queridos,
fértiles campiñas, ríos majestuosos,
Soberbios volcanes,
reseña virtudes y anhelos;
We’ve tried silence, and so far it has not helped. It never does and it never will. Being quiet and bottling up our feelings and emotions and thoughts is plain stupid. We should know better.
And we do. But we have this human need to behave in a self destructive manner that makes us do these stupid, stupid things while feeling superior to everyone.
I’ve always hated the ‘minute of silence’ thing. You know why? Because they never correctly honor the people they pretend to honor. Why don’t we take a leaf out of the Army’s book and honor the defunct with an act that symbolizes what they lived and died for? Aside from being badass, Army funerals are filled with the elements that filled the late soldier’s life (and death): America, gunfire and unity.
So I want to suggest a way to honor the late victims of the 9/11 tragedy:
Remember their life as well as their death: They were Americans and, more importantly, people, like you and me.
So go ahead, be an American and exercise your God-given rights and fulfill you duties (read: VOTE). The terrorists brought a wave of fear and death with them, their objective being to destroy our ‘filthy western freedom and culture’. And guess what: it’s up to us. We decide. That’s the beauty of freedom, democracy and America.
So, how about a minute of anything but silence?
